We slept late today, found a great breakfast spot at TC's Cafe, drove a little bit on Historic Route 66 and then spent about an hour at the Route 66 museum - what fun. The museum takes you through four decades of the Mother Road from the 40s to the 70s. It is hard to imagine that this 2400 mile stretch of tarmac was essentially built by hand. The kids loved all the memorabilia, and especially enjoyed the 1950s room where they had a old diner set up. Sara Rose played waitress for at least 15 minutes and had blast. We knew that Nan's dad Rufus had hitchhiked on the Mother Road when he was a youngin' and so seeing all the pictures and all the great buildings and people along the road was especially meaningful.
Speaking of driving on a road, we did seven hours today and made it all the way to Sante Fe. What a great city! Our friends the McAndrews are coming down from Boulder to meet us with their kids and so everyone is very excited. Tomorrow we hit the Pumpkin Festival (or something) and get some great food and music. The best part . . . Michael Franti and Spearhead are headlining the show - it is going to be great!!
